Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper names team to face Birmingham City - with interesting changes

Lewis Grabban gets the green light to face Birmingham City as Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper makes two changes to his starting line-up.

The Reds go into their final game before the international break looking to make it four unbeaten, having claimed their first win with Cooper in the dugout as they toppled Barnsley 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Grabban came off the bench to make a difference in that clash, having been an injury doubt beforehand due to a thigh problem.

He helped set up the visitors’ equaliser and then netted the third goal to round off an entertaining encounter at Oakwell.

Cooper admitted it had been a “slight risk” to involve him against the Tykes, and had been managing the forward carefully in the build-up to the journey to the West Midlands.

But the front man has nevertheless been given the nod to face the Blues this afternoon.

Grabban comes in at the expense of Joe Lolley, while Jack Colback replaces James Garner in the midfield, having also impressed as a substitute in midweek.

Forest switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation to good effect in the second half against the Tykes, but Cooper reverts back to the 3-4-3 system which has also served his team well.

Ahead of goalkeeper Brice Samba, Tobias Figueiredo, Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna make up the three-man back line.

Djed Spence and Max Lowe will provide added attacking threat as wing-backs, with Colback slotting in alongside Ryan Yates in the centre of the pitch.

Up front, Grabban will be supported by Philip Zinckernagel and Brennan Johnson as the visitors target back-to-back wins.

Along with Lolley and Manchester United loanee Garner, shot-stopper Ethan Horvath, Joao Carvalho, Gaetan Bong, Alex Mighten and Lyle Taylor make up the bench.

The Reds have picked up four points from two games since Cooper replaced Chris Hughton at the helm, having beaten Huddersfield Town when Steven Reid was in caretaker charge.

Forest: Samba, Figueiredo, Worrall, McKenna, Spence, Yates, Colback, Lowe, Zinckernagel, Grabban, Johnson. Subs: Horvath, Carvalho, Bong, Mighten, Lolley, Taylor, Garner.
