Nottingham Forest boss sent summer transfer message after 'unbelievably good' display

Nottingham Forest fans have been reflecting on a hard-earned 1-1 draw for Chris Hughton’s side against Brentford.

And many of them have been saying the same thing - with praise for Manchester United loanee James Garner, who was man of the match on the day.

After being well beaten by Norwich City in midweek, the Reds responded by coming from behind to earn a point against the Bees.

They fell behind to an Ivan Toney penalty in the first half, but Filip Krovinovic’s first goal in the Garibaldi saw them draw level just past the hour mark.

Here’s what Forest supporters have been saying about the result and performance on social media.

Garibaldi Red: Garry Birtles reflects on his favourite Forest players

@mgrice90: @jgarnerr96 has got to go down as one of the best loan signings we've made #NFFC

@_JoshNffc: Outstanding point for us that, at times we weren't great but I don't care quality point, also James Garner is unbelievably good we need to loan him in for next season #nffc

@extremecarl23: A good performance and a great point to pick up. #nffc

@ColeflaxJonny: Much better today. Deserved point and some great individual performances #nffc

@ShaunConway_: Cafu, Garner and Christie were Brilliant today #NFFC

@champ81gb: Effort and playing on the front foot. The minimum we expect and how much better we look when we execute it!! #nffc

@rrose1981: #nffc garner and cafu bossed that midfield.. Decent point in the end

@kieranblood3: How good was bloody Garner again today? So wish we had him at the start of the season. Be even better if we could get him back on loan next season as well #nffc

@jamiecrate: Need to turn a few of these loan signings into permanent ones #NFFC

Nottingham Forest's Filip Krovinovic celebrates scoring against Brentford (PA)

The Reds started brightly but fell behind when Toney was fouled by Gaetan Bong in the area, which led to the striker scoring his 28th goal of the season from the spot.

Alex Mighten was convinced he should have had a penalty of his own moments later when he appeared to be clipped by Pontus Jansson.

But referee Graham Scott booked the winger for simulation, which drew some surprised reactions among the Forest bench.

From that point, Brentford assumed control and almost doubled their lead when Vitaly Janelt met a corner only for his shot to strike the bar.

It came back out to Henrik Dalsgaard but he hit the foot of the post to give the visitors a reprieve.

After the break, Toney then slid a ball across goal for the waiting Bryan Mbeumo but he was denied by a terrific block by Bong, who made amends for his earlier error.

But following a nervy spell at the start of the half, Forest drew level.

After good work by Mighten the ball was switched to Bong, whose cross was not dealt with by Winston Reid and there was Krovinovic to slide home a terrific finish.

The Reds pushed hard for a winner as the game entered its final stages and Cyrus Christie saw a shot deflected just wide when it looked to be looping in.

And the defender made a vital contribution at the end when he blocked a shot from Tariqe Fosu.

Then, with the last kick of the game, Toney saw a snap-shot from distance deflected just wide of the post as Forest claimed a point.
