Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi provides update on free agent striker search

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi says Nottingham Forest are continuing to explore the free agent market in a bid to strengthen their attacking ranks.

But the Frenchman insists he will not spend time “dreaming” about potentially bringing in a front man, instead preferring to focus on the players he already has in his squad.

Lamouchi has previously admitted he would like to have seen another striker added during the transfer window.

Twelve new arrivals came through the City Ground door over the summer, including forward Rafa Mir on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But with Tyler Walker having joined Lincoln City for the season, and Daryl Murphy and understood to be among the group of players told they are free to move on, it leaves Mir and Lewis Grabban as the club’s main attacking options.

And Lamouchi admits it might prove to be that’s how it stays until the window opens again in January.

“We have enough players and now we are just looking at the free agents – maybe yes, maybe not,” he said.

“Maybe we will work until January with this squad and focus on this squad and these players.

“Yes we would like a striker, but it is not easy.

“If the striker is free now, it’s just because he is maybe looking at something else.

“I talked with someone and it was very clear, maybe we need to find another solution after a few months.

“But I am not a dreamer, I just want to work with the players in my squad and focus on Birmingham, Charlton, Fulham, Derby and Preston. After that we will see what can happen and what the club can do.”

Grabban opened his account for the season to earn a 1-1 draw at Leeds United last weekend.

The 31-year-old was the Reds’ top scorer last term, netting 17 goals in 41 appearances during an injury-hit campaign.

Mir meanwhile, is still reasonably unproven in English football, having made just four appearances for Wolves since making the move from Valencia in January 2018.

He spent last season on loan at Las Palmas in the Spanish second division, finishing with a haul of seven strikes in 30 games, and made his first start in the Garibaldi in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup triumph over Fleetwood Town.

“Of course I am happy with them (Mir and Grabban). I would be happy with another one, but I am happy with them,” said Lamouchi.

“I am happy with my squad.

“I am happy to try to find a solution – that is my job, and to adapt and to work; but we need a bit of time.”
