Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi planning for January additions as Reds legend tipped for top-flight return

Transfer talk

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi hopes strengthening in January can help improve Nottingham Forest’s form at the City Ground.

And the Frenchman says work is going on behind the scenes to bring players in when the transfer window opens next month.

The Reds made it back-to-back wins by beating Wigan Athletic 1-0 thanks to Tobias Figueiredo’s header and a penalty save from Brice Samba.

It was their first victory on their own turf since early November, and only their fifth home win of the campaign, as they built on Boxing Day’s success at Hull City.

Opposition verdict

Paul Cook told his Wigan Athletic players their visit to Nottingham Forest was a game they could not lose at half-time, after dominating much of the first half at the City Ground.

Cook’s Latics, without a win away from home all season were by far the better side at promotion-chasing Forest, but came away with nothing after Tobias Figueiredo headed in what proved to be the winner on the hour mark, leaving the visitors devastated.

Wigan were the dominant force both before and after Figueiredo’s winner, and had a glorious chance to get at least a point from the penalty spot, only to see Josh Windass’ soft kick saved by Brice Samba.

"I don't remember us playing as well as that this season for 90 minutes,” said a perplexed Cook.

Big move

The son of former Nottingham Forest player Alf-Inge Haaland, Erling Braut, has completed a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland junior was linked with moves to Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Italian giants Juventus.

The 19-year-old shot to prominence after an impressive Champions League campaign, netting eight goals in six matches for Red Bull Salzburg including a hat-trick in the opening game against KRC Genk.

His form has carried over into domestic competitions, the Norway international scoring 20 goals in 16 games across the League and Austrian Cup.

Pearce's return?

Former Nottingham Forest boss and club legend Stuart Pearce is reportedly set for a sensational return to West Ham.

David Moyes has been appointed manager at the London Stadium, after the relegation-threatened Hammers sacked Manuel Pellegrini on Saturday after a dreadful run of form - and reports suggest he’ll bring the Reds hero with him as part of his coaching staff.

Pearce was part of Moyes’ coaching staff in November 2017 when the management team helped guide West Ham to a 13th place finish, having been given the job on a temporary basis after the departure of Slaven Bilic.
