Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi discusses his January exit strategy

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi has admitted some players could leave Nottingham Forest during the transfer window - once new signings have arrived.

The Frenchman is eager to retain a reasonable sized squad and says he does not want to see “a lot of movement” during January.

Loan duo Arijanet Muric and Rafa Mir are expected to return to parent clubs Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, respectively.

And the likes of Costel Pantilimon, Claudio Yacob and Zach Clough - who are not part of Lamouchi’s first-team plans - could also move on, while decisions will have to be made on Liam Bridcutt and Luke Steele, whose loans at Bolton Wanderers and Millwall end this month.

“Of course if some players come, we need to make some changes,” Lamouchi said.

“But for the moment, that is not the priority.

“My priority is to keep the team spirit. I don’t want a lot of movement. I don’t want a lot of players. Because with more players, there are more problems if they don’t play.

“I want all players focused on our target. Our target is game by game, to fight and to work all together until the end.”

Lamouchi is, though, keen to bring in some new additions to boost his team’s promotion chances.

They have a break from league action, with a trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday, but otherwise sit fourth in the Championship table, behind Brentford on goal difference.

Mir’s exit would leave Lewis Grabban as the only recognised striker at the club, meaning bringing in another front man is a priority.

A number of forwards have been linked to the Reds, with the likes of Dwight Gayle and Che Adams believed to be on their list of targets.

But while the club are “looking at a lot of players”, Lamouchi says his focus is on the task in hand, on the pitch.

“Not only a striker. We need quality players; players who can help the team,” said the manager.

“Of course, we are waiting for some change and some players, but the club are working hard. But we are not alone (in looking) and the winter market is not an easy one.

“We are looking at a lot of players - good opportunities - and the club are working hard for that, like I’m working hard for the next games.

“Chelsea, Reading, Luton, Reading again, and Brentford, that is our schedule in January.

“I am just focused on my team and my players.

“The club are working hard for the window.

“I just want to focus on my job. My job is every day with my team and my players, focusing on Chelsea, then Reading next week.

“Of course I am waiting for good news, but I know the club are working hard.”

He added: “I hope a signing will be soon, but we never know.

“Until the player signs, you are not close.

“There are many details - club, players, agents, numbers, choice, career.

“We have to be patient.”

And with plenty of rumours about who could leave or who could arrive at the City Ground, Lamouchi says it is important for everyone not to lose sight of their goals.

“No, it is not difficult to stay focused. That is my job every day,” he said.

“I will keep only the players focused and with me, with us.

“If you are (focused) on the project, you are with me. If you are not (focused) on the project, you are not with me. I don’t have time to lose.”
