Nottingham Forest boss responds to striker rumour as he makes transfer admission

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton would not be drawn on speculation linking striker Miguel Angel Guerrero with a January move to Greece.

But the Reds manager does admit he is planning for some departures next month as he looks to trim numbers in a bid to “balance” his squad.

Guerrero only made the move to the City Ground in September, penning a one-year deal - with the option of another 12 months beyond that - when he joined from fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos.

He has made nine appearances in the Garibaldi, but reports in Greece claim he is pushing to terminate his contract and sign for Aris Thessanoliki.

“I’ve only just been made aware of some speculation,” Hughton told NottinghamshireLive, when asked about Guerrero.

“The best way to put it is, with the squad we’ve got and the numbers we’ve got in the squad, there is serious consideration going into those who are more likely to play more minutes than others.

“We will be looking to get some players out on loan.

“As regards who those individuals are, we never say anything until something happens as it’s unfair on those players and, probably at this moment, we’re not quite sure who they will be.

“But there has to be some balance in that squad.”

Some incomings are expected when the window reopens, although Hughton has said he is only looking to make minor “tweaks”.

But with a number of players seeing very little game time so far, overseeing outgoings is also a priority.

Asked if some need to head out the exit door before others can come in, the manager said: “Probably the correct answer on that one is, we have a lot of bodies in the squad; we have a lot of players.

“With the games we have, and trying to keep some continuity, there will be players who aren’t playing games and are not even making the squads that they need to.

“It is part of the process in our thinking to have more balance to the squad, which would probably mean giving some an opportunity to play elsewhere.

“Whether that affects what we might bring in or what we might think of bringing in, probably not at the moment.

“My aim is to try to get as much balance to the squad as I can.”
