Nottingham Forest boss provides injury update as winger faces uncertain future

Luke Freeman could have played his last game for Nottingham Forest, as he is set to miss the final two matches of the season.

The winger was substituted in the first half of last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City due to a sore knee, being replaced by Anthony Knockaert.

And he has been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday, as well as the home clash with Preston North End, when the Reds will sign off for the summer.

Freeman has spent the campaign at the City Ground on loan from Sheffield United, one which has been blighted by injury problems.

Forest do have an option to make his move permanent, but he has struggled to make an impact Trentside and could have pulled on the shirt for the last time.

“Luke Freeman will miss both of these games,” Chris Hughton told Football League World, in his press conference ahead of the visit to Hillsborough.

“He came off with a knock against Stoke and it’s a very minor strain he’s picked up, but it’s likely to rule him out for three weeks.”

The visitors will also still be without Sammy Ameobi (ankle) and Samba Sow (groin) against the Owls.

As with Freeman, their futures are up in the air, with both coming towards the end of their contracts.

“Sammy’s probably a mixture of things,” said Hughton. “He hasn’t been able to train, and if we were prepared to take a risk, he would have been able to train on Thursday.

“But he is still feeling his injury to a degree, so what we can’t do is take a risk which could rule him out of the last game.

“Samba Sow isn’t back training, but he is outside doing some good work.”
