Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill hoping to include teenage talent Brennan Johnson in pre-season plans

Brennan Johnson’s impressive form for Nottingham Forest Under-23s this season has caught the eye of first-team boss Martin O’Neill.

And the Reds manager hopes to be able to include the teenage attacking midfielder in his pre-season preparations this summer.

Johnson, the son of former Forest striker David, has put in a string of standout performances for Jimmy Gilligan’s side - including as recently as last week, when he rounded off their campaign in style with a first half hat-trick as Ipswich Town were demolished 4-1.

That took the 17-year-old’s tally to 16 for the 23s, while he also bagged three during the Under-18s’ FA Youth Cup run and is a regular in Wales’ Under-19s set-up.

O’Neill has already handed another of Forest’s highly-rated young prospects, Arvin Appiah, his full senior debut for the club.

And with the Northern Irishman regularly watching the Reds’ Under-23s, Johnson is one of those who has caught his eye.

“He’s been over training with us for a few days and has been doing exceptionally well. He’s a nice young man,” said O’Neill, when asked if Johnson might be in his thoughts.

“He’s definitely a player with really decent talent.

“He would be coming with us pre-season anyway, with a little bit of luck.

“He definitely has talent and looks as if he’s got a decent future ahead of him.”

Johnson is highly rated at the City Ground and has previously been linked with a move to Premier League Everton.
