Nottingham Forest boss has his say on two controversial decisions against Brentford

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton argued it was a “soft” decision to award Brentford a penalty in his team’s 1-1 draw.

Reds defender Gaetan Bong was penalised for bringing down Ivan Toney early in the first half of the lunchtime Championship clash.

And the Bees man stepped up to put his team in front with 12 minutes on the clock, coolly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Brice Samba to net his 28th league goal of the season.

The visitors mounted a response and levelled after the break as Benfica loanee Filip Krovinovic scored his first goal in the Garibaldi to earn a point.

But as well as having his say on the awarding of the spot-kick, Hughton also felt Brentford stopper David Raya was fortunate not to see red for handling the ball outside his box.

“There is tugging and you see it in so many games,” he said of the penalty, given by referee Graham Scott.

“Some refs choose not to give that so it is a soft one.”

On Raya, he added: “It was a clear, clear red so he got that one wrong.”

The draw for Forest came on the back of a 2-0 midweek defeat to Norwich City in which they were well beaten.

Hughton’s side are 17th in the table, sitting seven points above the bottom three.

They now have almost a fortnight’s break for international fixtures and will return with a trip to Cardiff City on Friday, April 2.
