Nottingham Forest boss explains lack of substitutions in Bournemouth draw

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton praised a tactically disciplined performance against Bournemouth and said a point was a fair result.

Clearcut opportunities were limited for both sides in a 0-0 draw at the City Ground, but Glenn Murray came closest to scoring when he saw a header cleared off the line in the second half.

Bournemouth, who arrived with former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere in their ranks, struggled to break Forest down, leaving goalkeeper Brice Samba with a comfortable afternoon.

Midfielder James Garner and centre-back Joe Worrall both impressed in particular as Forest stretched their unbeaten run to four games.

And reflecting on what was a controlled and organised performance, Hughton felt the scoreline was the correct one.

“It was a tough game against really good opposition,” he said.

“Offensively they can hurt you with the players they have and the changes they can make.

“It was important. Sometimes you get to a stage in a game where there is a balance where, do you go all out to win the game or do you not lose it?

“We were somewhere in between. I thought we were still threatening at the end predominantly through Anthony Knockheart.

“It was  a hard-fought draw and probably a fair result.

“I don’t think they had a shot on target and from that aspect, we did really well.”

Hughton did not make a change in the entire 90 minutes despite having the likes of Lyle Taylor and Lewis Grabban on the bench.

But he felt the Reds had given a performance that had not warranted any disruption.

“There’s always a calculation that you have to make,” he said.

“One is it like for like or is it something a little bit different.

“But sometimes when you are in the rhythm of a game and you know the quality that you are up against then you don’t want to disrupt it too much.

“You have to have confidence in the players that are on.

“If you see someone who is looking a little bit tired or leggy, then you will make that change.

“But fortunately we didn’t see that hence why we didn’t make any changes.”
