Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton sends clear striker transfer message

Chris Hughton is confident striker Lewis Grabban will remain at Nottingham Forest beyond the end of January.

The front man was wanted by former Reds boss Sabri Lamouchi, now at Qatari side Al Duhail, during the summer transfer window.

It is understood Grabban was initially keen on the move, but agreed to stay at the City Ground following talks with the club - with Forest making clear he was an integral part of their plans.

It has been a injury-disrupted season so far for the skipper, but he netted his second goal of the campaign to earn a 1-0 victory at Preston North End on Saturday.

And Hughton says he remains a key player for the Reds, issuing a ‘hands off’ warning, should Al Duhail want to try their luck again.

Asked if he is confident of hanging on to Grabban, the Forest boss told the BBC in his post-match press conference: "Yes, as we were confident before.

"He's very much part of what we do here.

"He's got a wonderful goalscoring record at this club.

"At a time when we need goals in the team, he's a big part of what we do here.”

In his 13th appearance this term, Grabban scored from the penalty spot in the second half at Deepdale to make it five games unbeaten for the visitors.

Having started the day in the Championship relegation zone, the result moved them up to 19th spot.

They now have a break from league action, with an FA Cup tie at home to Cardiff City to come next weekend.
