Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton names his team to face Port Vale in friendly

Joao Carvalho is included in the starting XI as Nottingham Forest continue their build-up to the new season with a friendly at Port Vale.

The Portuguese midfielder will be looking to impress, having joined back up with the Reds squad at the end of his season-long loan at Almeria.

A mixture of senior and youth players are set to feature in the Reds’ second run-out of the summer, after last weekend’s victory at Alfreton Town.

New signing Ethan Horvath has made the trip to Vale Park but the goalkeeper will not be involved, while other senior players such as Lewis Grabban, Brennan Johnson and Joe Worrall will also not feature.

Jordan Smith starts in goal, with Jordan Gabriel at right-back, Under-23s defender Baba Fernandes and Loic Mbe Soh at centre-back, and Jayden Richardson on the left.

Ryan Yates and Jack Colback will take up the holding midfield spots.

And Carvalho is set to join Cafu and Alex Mighten in a three-man attack supporting lone striker Nuno da Costa, who spent last season at Royal Excel Mouscron.

Brice Samba, Fin Back, Aaron Donnelly, Tyrese Fornah, Sam Sanders, Oli Hammond, Ateef Konate, Josh Barnes and Joe Lolley make up the bench.

Starting XI: Smith; Gabriel, Fernandes, Mbe Soh, Richardson; Yates, Colback; Cafu, Carvalho, Mighten; da Costa. Subs: Samba, Back, Sanders, Donnelly, Fornah, Hammond, Konate, Barnes, Lolley.
