Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton issues update on Brice Samba and Anthony Knockaert

Chris Hughton is hopeful goalkeeper Brice Samba and Anthony Knockaert will be available to face Brentford at the weekend after they missed the defeat to Norwich.

Samba had a slight issue with his hamstring which led to Reds boss Hughton leaving him out as a precaution while Knockaert, on loan from Fulham, had also picked up a slight problem.

But speaking after last night's defeat against the Canaries, Hughton believes both players have a chance of facing the promotion-chasing Bees at the weekend.

"We had two injuries over the last couple of days. That's Brice Samba and Anthony Knockaert," he said.

"Both of them, I think will be close on Saturday.

"These are very, very slight injuries. With Brice it was one where it was just lower on his hamstring, but very, very minimal.

"And that was probably a little bit more of a precaution because of the position he plays and the amount of kicking that he has to do and if we were to risk that then it could turn into a three to four week one.

"He will be in the frame for Saturday as well as Anthony."

Hughton also explained his reasons for handing Tyler Blackett his first start since becoming Forest boss as Yuri Ribeiro was left on the bench, while Filip Krovinovic was also dropped in favour of Cafu being played as the number 10.

"The left-back was a decision (not down to injury)," he said.

"What I've got the moment is that I've got three left-backs.

"They're all pushing to play and that was just a choice for me.

"Cafu was just one where I wanted a little bit more intensity off the front to be able to get to their centre-backs and, of course, that meant bringing Ryan Yates back in to midfield."
