Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton addresses transfer deadline day rumours

Boss Chris Hughton has addressed rumours Nottingham Forest are chasing a goalkeeper before tonight’s transfer deadline.

The Reds had been linked with a surprise move for QPR’s Joe Lumley, amid speculation they wanted to sign a shot-stopper.

Brice Samba is well established as the club’s first-choice between the posts, while Jordan Smith has provided back-up.

If Glenn Murray scores the goals to keep Nottingham Forest comfortably in the Championship, then it'd be good business

Forest do have a third senior keeper on the books in Abdoulaye Diallo, who signed in the summer but has yet to feature in a matchday squad.

Hughton says injury has prevented Diallo from being involved, and has ruled out strengthening in that department before the window closes at 11pm.

“I would imagine that’s more from the fact that Diallo has been injured for a chunk of the first part of the season. I think that’s probably where the speculation has come from,” he told NottinghamshireLive.

“It’s been difficult for him and we haven’t really had the opportunity to see too much of him.

“I think that’s where that speculation has come from. But the answer is, no, I don’t expect anything to happen there.

“He is fit now and he has had periods where he’s been back in training; it’s just that he’s broken down on a couple of occasions.

“There’s no doubt about the quality of the goalkeeper he is. It’s just a question of seeing him available more often.”
