Nottingham Forest boost as transfer speculation swirls around Brice Samba

French outfit Nantes have no interest in signing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba this summer.

Samba, 28, has one year left on his current deal at the City Ground, but he has reportedly turned down the Reds' offer of an extension. Forest want to retain the shot-stopper's services but - after three seasons at the club - he could leave this summer.

But according to Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Samba is "not in the sights" of Nantes and no offer has been made by the Ligue 1 outfit, as had been claimed.

Samba saved three penalties in the semi-final shootout against Sheffield United at the City Ground.

The talented goalkeeper has been at Forest since the summer of 2019, when he joined from Caen following their relegation from Ligue 1. He has made 133 appearances for the Reds, including 45 across all competitions last season. Forest remain determined to tie him down to a new deal, and his strong relationship with head coach Steve Cooper could be a huge factor if he can be convinced to stay.

Cooper's back-up shot-stopper, Ethan Horvath, has recently admitted to uncertainty over his role at the club too.

The American international joined the Reds from Club Brugge last summer, but failed to claim the number one spot ahead of promotion hero Brice Samba. He made six appearances in the Championship, as well as four in the two domestic cups. He also came on as a late substitute in the play-off final win over Huddersfield Town.

The 27-year-old is keen to find more game time ahead of the World Cup in November with a place in the US squad up for grabs. In a recent interview he said he is "in close contact" with Forest about a potential move, but would stay if he were a regular starter next season.
