Nottingham Forest 'blew it' in Championship promotion race says Sky Sports pundit - and here's why

Nottingham Forest were doing things against Stoke City that they would never have done had the nerves not gotten to them.

That's according to Sky Sports presenter and former Potters man Chris Karmara who was at the City Ground as Sabri Lamouchi's side saw their Premier League dreams come crumbling down on Wednesday night.

The 62-year-old says he could visible see Forest's star players playing without any belief that they would finish inside the top six as Stoke put four past them, demoting them to seventh on the final day.

Speaking to EFL, Kamara said: "When I was designated the Forest game the producer said to me: 'Do you think there's still something in this?' and told him no, I could not see Forest conceding four goals.

"Forest are not a side to ship goals like that, but once again it was the nerves, their confidence," he said.

"I think the players could sniff the Premier League and then, all of a sudden, their nerves start to jangle and the positive football you once played is no longer being played, that's what happened to them.

"I was there to see if visibly on the night and it was really strange. Their confidence was nowhere to be seen," he said.

Adding: "Forest players were doing things that they would never have done and they blew it."
