Nottingham Forest beat Celtic and West Brom to signing of Northern Irish talent

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Glentoran central midfielder Jamie McDonnell, the Northern Irish club have announced.

McDonnell will link up with fellow Northern Ireland Under-17 international Dale Taylor at Forest, after the Reds saw off reported interest from Celtic and West Brom for his signature.

The BBC reports McDonnell has signed a three-year deal at the City Ground, where he is set to link up with those hoping to make into the first team at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

The 16-year-old also had trials with FC Groningen, Sheffield United and Rangers.

McDonnell is a product of the highly successful ClubNI programme, which has provided a pathway into full-time football for a number of promising youth players across Northern Ireland.

He has also played for the Rangers Academy and captained his country at Under-17 level.
