Academy stalwart Gareth Holmes has left Nottingham Forest “to pursue new opportunities”.
The Nigel Doughty Academy is renowned for bringing through talented players, and Holmes has played a key part in that during his six years at the club.
The Reds announced his departure this afternoon, saying: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that long-serving under-18s coach Gareth Holmes has left the club.
“Holmes departs with the best wishes of all at the club to pursue new opportunities.”
Director of football development, Gary Brazil, told the official club website: “Gareth has made an excellent contribution to the academy in his six years at Nottingham Forest.
“I would like to personally thank him for all his work in helping to develop young professionals at the club.
“Numerous homegrown players including Arvin Appiah, Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson have all passed through Gareth’s under-18s team in recent years and have big futures in the game ahead of them.
“On behalf of all the staff and players at the academy, I would like to wish Gareth all the very best with the next stage of his career.”
Earlier this year, Forest were granted Category 1 status for the academy for the upcoming season - the highest classification in England.
It has already been a summer of change off the pitch at the City Ground, with a new backroom set-up in place, including confirmation of Dane Murphy's arrival as CEO this week.
