Nottingham Forest and the January transfer window: Why it's so crucial for Sabri Lamouchi

Help could be on its way to Nottingham Forest when the transfer window opens on Wednesday, according to boss Sabri Lamouchi.

And given their recent performances at the City Ground, help is certainly welcome if the Reds are to maintain their bid for a play-off spot in the Championship.

Sunday afternoon’s narrow 1-0 victory over Wigan was lucky, it was hard-fought and it was a battle.

Did they deserve it?

Probably not, not that any of that really matters in the cold light of day.

When you’re without a win in the last three at the City Ground and struggling for goals, you’ll take a win any which way.

Tobias Figueiredo’s header on the hour put them in front against the Championship’s bottom side without a win on the road all season, and when Brice Samba repelled Josh Windass’ 79th minute penalty, you felt the luck might just be with them.

Another City Ground test awaits to see in the New Year on Wednesday in the form of Blackburn Rovers, themselves harbouring hopes of a play-off challenge.

Here, Sarah Clapson and Barry Cooper looked back on a big three points at the City Ground and a look ahead to the transfer window.
