Nottingham Forest and Notts County make classy charity gesture

Nottingham Forest and Notts County will donate monies raised by supporters to local charities.

Reds fans that attended Friday’s pre-season friendly with Real Sociedad at the City Ground, donated money to staff at Meadow Lane who had gone two months without pay under former owner Alan Hardy.

Over the weekend, however, Notts were taken over by Danish brothers Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz, with the pair setting about covering outstanding salaries as one of their key priorities, with payments made on Monday.

Now, staff at Meadow Lane have opted to donate the cash raised to worthwhile causes, which will be revealed in due course, along with the total amount raised.

“Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank all those who generously donated and wish the new owners and all at Notts County the very best for their season ahead,” the Reds said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

While the Magpies, who begin their National League campaign with an away trip to Eastleigh on Saturday, expressed their gratitude to their Trentside neighbours.

“Everyone at Meadow Lane would like to thank all connected with Forest for their kindness and generosity.”
