Ex-Leeds United and Derby County defender Danny Mills says Nottingham Forest target Dwight Gayle should offer Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce a transfer ultimatum before January.
Gayle has made just four appearances for the Magpies this term despite impressing on loan with Championship side West Bromwich Albion last campaign.
And as the January transfer window fast approaches, the Reds are understood to be monitoring the goal hungry forward.
But Mills has told FootballInsider that Bruce should be expecting an angry knock on his door from the 29-year-old, demanding a move this winter.
“I’ve been surprised [over his lack of minutes], he has done so well in the Championship, I don’t think they wanted him to go out on loan,” he said.
“Steve Bruce likes him but he hasn’t really been given an opportunity, especially when your centre-forward has hardly scored.
“So he’ll be one knocking on the manager’s door, saying ‘play me or let me leave’.”
