Nottingham Forest and Leeds United expose 'structural flaw in English football' says Gary Neville

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the Championship's top clubs, including Nottingham Forest, expose the ‘main structural flaw in English football’.

Sabri Lamouchi's side were well in the race for promotion to the Premier League before the coronavirus pandemic halted Championship action with Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion leading the way.

Promotion for the Reds will not only see top-flight action return to the City Ground but the club will also be handed a slice of the pie when it comes to the Premier League's lucrative broadcast deal.

But Neville believes that the huge disparity in income from TV rights between the top two divisions needs to be addressed.

"What we are seeing is the main structural flaw in English football, which I have called for government intervention on for many years," he said, speaking to the Sky Sports podcast.

“We have the most amazing Premier League, but you’ve got the bottom club in the Premier League gaining £100million and the top club in the EFL, Leeds United, getting £3million then you must see the disconnect and the disproportionate financial reward that is put through football.

"It needs resetting," he urged.
