Nottingham Forest 'ambitious summer target' Cristhian Stuani available at discount price following Girona relegation

Girona midfielder Cristhian Stuani will see his buy-out clause halved to just seven milliion euros (£6.1m) now that his side have been relegated from La Liga, according to Sport.

The Uruguayan international, 32, was heavily linked with a move to join Nottingham Forest last summer.

Former Forest boss Aitor Karanka was central to the speculation having worked with Stuani at Middlesbrough.

Tom Lockyer is not a current target for Nottingham Forest

It would have cost the Reds in the region of 14 million euros to buy the forward out of his contract last summer.

However, they could now be tempted to reignite their interest with reports in Spain claiming that relegation for Girona has seen that figure halved.

The Spanish outfit lost nine of their last 10 games in the top-flight to slide down the table and into the bottom three.

Despite poor team performances, Stuani has been in fine form this season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions.

He even attracted reported interest from Barcelona in January, but Ernesto Valverde's side signed Kevin-Prince Boateng instead.

Capped 48 times for his county, Stuani is contracted with Girona until 2022, but with relegation now confirmed it looks increasingly unlikely that he will remain there next season.
