Nottingham Forest ace to be 'assessed' by club after international withdrawal

Nottingham Forest attacker Morgan Gibbs-White has pulled out of the England Under-21 squad for their upcoming international fixtures.

It hasn’t been specified exactly why the 22-year-old has withdrawn from the national side. But England have said: “Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Brentford forward Keane Lewis-Potter will play no part in the upcoming fixtures and will remain with their clubs for assessment.”

Gibbs-White had been selected as part of the group to face Italy on Thursday and Germany next Tuesday. He had played the full 90 minutes of the Reds’ defeat to Fulham last Friday night.

It comes as Forest teammate Emmanuel Dennis has also been ruled out of international duty. The striker had been called up by Nigeria as a replacement for Adana Demirspor's Henry Onyekuru ahead of a friendly against Algeria next Tuesday. However, the Super Eagles’ official Twitter account posted an update saying Dennis would also miss out.

Meanwhile, defender Moussa Niakhate has linked up with the Senegal squad for their upcoming fixtures, offering hope that a Forest comeback may not be too far away. He has been pictured in training gear for the Lions’ first session ahead of a friendly against Bolivia on Saturday.

Niakhate has been sidelined with a hamstring problem since the 1-0 win over West Ham United last month. It still remains to be seen whether he features for his country, with another match against Iran scheduled for next Tuesday.

The Reds still have Orel Mangala (hamstring) and Omar Richards (hairline fracture of the leg) on the injured list. The former had returned to training but suffered a setback in the build-up to Friday’s clash.
