Nottingham Forest ace plots automatic route as Lamouchi gives contract update

Forest boss gives contract update

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi hopes to soon have “fantastic news” to announce about his contract situation.

Talks have been held between the Frenchman and the club about extending the one-year deal he signed when he joined the Reds almost 12 months ago.

And Lamouchi has made it clear he wants to stay at the City Ground as his team prepare to resume their promotion push this weekend.

“At the right time, we will give you the good news,” the Reds head coach said in his pre-match press conference, via Zoom.

Forest team news update

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi hopes to have an almost fully-fit squad to choose from for his team’s first game back in action.

The Reds have not played since March due to the coronavirus crisis, and the break in play has given some of their injured players time to recover.

Tiago Silva missed the two games prior to football’s shutdown after suffering appendicitis, while fellow midfielder Samba Sow had been sidelined since February with a knee problem.

Official verdict on Forest fans' return

Nottingham Forest fans were given hope they could soon be able to return to stadiums by Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden.

The Reds will resume their Championship campaign on Saturday, while the Premier League got back underway on Wednesday evening.

And while all remaining games of the season will take place behind closed doors, Dowden has said supporters could be back in grounds at the start of next term.

League bosses were involved in initial cross-sport discussions with sports minister Nigel Huddleston and deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van Tam last week over the phased reopening of stadiums, but talks are at an extremely early stage.

Opposition team news ahead of opening clash

Sheffield Wednesday have had mixed news on the injury front ahead of Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

For both clubs, it will be a return to action for the first time since March, when games were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Owls’ top scorer Steven Fletcher is expected to be involved at Hillsborough, but the hosts will be without two of their forward line as Josh Windass and Sam Winnall will be sidelined with injury.

Windass’ loan deal from Wigan Athletic runs out at the end of this month, but Wednesday are hopeful he will extend his stay.

Forest ace plots automatics

Nottingham Forest’s first three games of the Championship restart will determine whether they have a chance of securing automatic promotion, according to defender Michael Dawson.

Matches were suspended in March due to the coronavirus crisis, with the Reds sat fifth in the table - 10 points behind second-placed West Bromwich Albion and 11 adrift of Leeds United.

They will resume their campaign on Saturday when they make the trip to face Sheffield Wednesday, followed by successive clashes with Huddersfield Town and Bristol City.

Dawson believes the top two are still catchable in the final nine rounds of fixtures, but says much will depend on the start Forest make.
