Nottingham Forest ace makes admission about his future ahead of summer decision

Winger Sammy Ameobi says he would be keen to extend his time at Nottingham Forest, if given the chance.

But he adds his future beyond the summer currently remains uncertain.

Ameobi is one of several Reds players who will be out of contract come the end of the season, following a one-year extension to his deal last summer.

The 28-year-old says he feels settled at the City Ground, having joined the club as a free agent in 2019.

So far he has made 76 appearances in the Garibaldi, netting 14 goals - and he hopes to keep adding to that tally.

Asked if he would like to stay at Forest, Ameobi said: “Yeah, absolutely.

“I’ve always said, since I joined here I’ve been made to feel really welcome.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here ever so much.

“Long may it continue, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

“My agent’s doing all that behind the scenes. I don’t really like to get involved too much. I trust him enough and know he wants the best for me.

“We’ll have to wait and see.”

Ameobi found himself in a similar position 12 months ago, as he waited to see what the future held.

The former Bolton Wanderers man says it is not something which weighs on his mind, with his focus simply on what happens on the pitch.

A knee injury has kept him sidelined recently, but he made his comeback in last Tuesday night’s defeat at home to Luton Town.

And he will hope to be involved on Saturday when Chris Hughton’s side aim to get back to winning ways against Reading in their bid to further pull away from danger.

“It doesn’t really bother me. I’m just enjoying playing football,” said Ameobi.

“It was the same last season, playing with a one-year contract.

“It’s easy to think, ‘what am I going to do? What am I going to do?’.

“But if I’m playing and enjoying myself, hopefully good performances will lead to a new contract.

“That’s the way I try to think - not be too negative about it all; just enjoy what I’m doing.”
