Nottingham Forest ace Joe Lolley delivers cutting response to Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis' claims

Nottingham Forest ace Joe Lolley has jokingly hit back at Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis’ claims there is a £100m deficit between the two teams’ squads.

Talking about the difference in finances among Championship clubs, Pulis said he felt there was a considerable gap in the money spent on players by the Reds and Boro last summer.

He said: “We played Nottingham Forest the other week - we’d sold players for over £50m, Nottingham Forest had bought players in that squad that played us for over £56m.

“So there was a £100m deficit in what the two clubs had done this season. But nobody talks about that. That’s fact.”

He tweeted: “Would love to know where these mystery £56 million worth of players have been hiding all season.” And he added a both a crying with laughter and a quizzical emoji for good measure.

The Reds brought in a number of new players last summer, though Pulis’ figure for their total spend is considered to be well wide of the mark.

Joao Carvalho was signed for a club record fee of 15m euros, while Lewis Grabban arrived in a deal understood to be worth £6m.

But Forest’s recruitment also included a number of loans and free agents.

The Reds twice beat Boro this season, winning 2-0 at the Riverside back in October and thumping them 3-0 at the City Ground last month.

Pulis’ side face a nervy final day as they head into their clash with Rotherham United sat in seventh place, one point adrift of the play-offs spots, behind Derby County.
