Nottingham Forest ace gets Premier League seal of approval

Nottingham Forest skipper Michael Dawson can’t hide his admiration for one of the club’s hottest properties right now.

The veteran captain recently joked that the Championship club’s French boss Sabri Lamouchi is a genius because he’s made Matty Cash “into the new Cafu”!

And now the Forest defender has likened the 22-year-old to England full-backs Danny Rose and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Under Lamouchi’s coaching, Cash has blossomed into one of the best right-backs in the Championship, having been converted from his more natural midfield position.

So far this season the marauding full-back has contributed three goals and four assists to help the club to fifth in the division, perfectly placed to push for promotion via the play-offs when football resumes.

Cash’s eye-catching form has not gone unnoticed, with both West Ham United and AC Milan reportedly bidding for him in the January transfer window.

And Dawson is convinced his team-mate is every bit as good as Tottenham’s Danny Rose and in the same mould as Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold.

“I was at Spurs with Danny Rose when he turned into a left-back, and Cashy reminded me of that,” said Dawson, speaking to Sky Sports.

“They are both powerful, quick runners and rapid from a standing start.

“You talk about Andy Robertson and Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, and when Spurs had their best season they had Rose and Kyle Walker, who as a pair at the time were the best in the world.

"When Cashy and [left-back] Yuri Ribeiro play well we play well. When they do not we struggle as a team.”
