Nottingham Forest ace explains 'confident' away form after toppling Cardiff City

Nottingham Forest are travelling up and down the country without any fear factor, according to winger Sammy Ameobi.

And it is playing an important part in their promotion push as they continue to pick up impressive results on the road.

The Reds clinched a 1-0 victory at Cardiff City on Tuesday night- their eighth away win of the campaign, while they have lost just three times on their travels.

It moved them up to third in the table, three points behind Leeds United, who head to Middlesbrough - Forest’s opponents on Monday - this evening.

“I think it’s the mentality. We are a confident team and believe in our ability,” Ameobi said of his side’s away form.

“We can be very solid defensively and we have the quality to hurt teams.

“We go into games thinking, ‘yes, we want three points’, not just to hang on for something - we’ve got that in the team.

“Possibly there is a bit less pressure.

“We set up a bit more defensively when we come away from home and you can see we’re solid. Then we’ve got players to hurt the opposition on the break as well, so maybe that’s it.

“Hopefully we can keep grinding out the results.”

Forest had not won in their last six visits to South Wales before the midweek clash.

But Tiago Silva’s second half strike clinched the three points as Sabri Lamouchi’s men brought an end to a run of three games without a victory.

“We know how technically gifted Tiago is. We see it day in, day out in training,” Ameobi said.

“I’m really happy for him to get the goal.

“We knew how dangerous a team Cardiff could be, but the game plan and the way we set up was spot on.

“It was a great finish by Tiago.

“We have played some terrific games recently, it was just that the three points weren’t coming. It was good to get back on the right foot.

“I’d heard about the record at Cardiff! But everyone was just concentrating on the game.

“We knew three points is what we wanted if we want to stay in the play-off race and go for promotion.

“Everyone was focused and we’re just glad to get the result in the end.

“The way they play, they have got a very strong team and they put the ball forward. We knew we had to defend together and be strong.

“They get on to a lot of second balls, so everyone had to be alert. Thankfully, we were.”

The Reds were backed by a large, vocal travelling support on a bitingly cold night.

And Ameobi has emphasised the importance fans can play as the season heads towards its climax.

“We get that support week in, week out,” he said.

“It’s something we’re very grateful for and it pushes us on.

“We just have to take it one game at a time.

“One win isn’t going to get us there; we have to keep performing each week.

“The most consistent teams get there in the end, so hopefully we can go to Middlesbrough on Monday night and get another good result.”
