Nottingham Forest ace Ben Osborn on Sheffield United's radar 'for some time'

Boss Chris Wilder says Sheffield United are only pursuing targets who have been thoroughly researched, amid their interest in Nottingham Forest ace Ben Osborn.

The Reds have already rejected one bid for Osborn from the newly-promoted Premier League side, but are not expecting that to be the end of their interest.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the City Ground next summer and though head coach Sabri Lamouchi has said he would like the player to stay, the club know they are facing a battle to hold on to him.

The Blades have already been busy in the market, having secured their place in the top-flight.

They are said to be poised to break their transfer record for the third time this summer as they close in on Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset, while they continue to chase Swansea City’s Oli McBurnie.

And discussing his club’s transfer policy, Wilder says much thought has gone into their approach.

“Everyone we’re looking at, we’ve been looking at for some time,” he told the Sheffield Star, who referenced United’s interest in Osborn.

“It’s not a scattergun approach.

“We know what these lads are about, on and off the pitch.”

Osborn started for Forest on Tuesday night in their 3-0 defeat to Olympiacos in Athens, and Lamouchi said he hoped the midfielder would remain part of his plans for this season.

“I heard about Sheffield’s interest, but I cannot complain about his attitude,” said the Frenchman.

“Ben is doing a great job for us in training and in the game he played well.

“I am happy with him. Of course I would like to see him stay.

“He likes the club and I like what I saw tonight. In three weeks here, I have only seen positives with him.”
