Nottingham Forest 1979 European Cup win to be shown 'live' at retro fanzone for 40th anniversary

For the Reds fans who couldn't make it, weren't yet born, or just want to relive the magical 90 minutes of Nottingham Forest's legendary 1979 European Cup win on its 40th anniversary... this is for you.

For one-night only, and in what organisers believe is a world first, Nottingham will be home to a retro fanzone, where supporters can watch that landmark match 'live' and in full.

Taking place on Thursday, May 30, the nostalgic throwback night will also include a screening of Jonny Owen's Forest blockbuster I Believe In Miracles alongside hot dogs, loaded fries and plenty of beer to wet everyone's whistles.

Tickets to Retro Fanzone: Munich ‘79 at The Garage, in Chilwell, (the old Bartons bus depot), are £12.50 from thegaragechilwell.co.uk where concessions and family tickets are also available.

Doors will open at 5pm and first up there will be a screening of Owen's 2015 film which tells the remarkable story of Nottingham Forest's meteoric rise in English and European football under the stewardship of charismatic, outspoken and often controversial manager Brian Clough and his master tactician and partner Peter Taylor.

Once the film has ended The Garage will morph into Retro Fanzone: Munich '79.

Fans can cheer on the Reds while introducing their family and friends to a defining moment in Forest history as the full 1979 European Cup Final is shown as if it were live on television.

It is at this point The Garage opens up and you'll get the choice of some tasty street food from Fat Snags and Disco Fries, who will be serving up hot dogs and loaded fries. There will also be a range of beers from ex-Forest sponsors and historic Nottinghamshire breweries Shipstones and Home Ales.

“We’re Forest fans ourselves but never got to see The Reds at the top of their game,” organiser James Barton of Barton Bros says.

“We wanted to do something to commemorate that famous victory. Hopefully it’s something that supporters who remember the feeling of being crowed champions can share with their kids and grand-kids.

"It’s also fantastic timing as club legend Martin O’Neil is back at the club with his Number One Roy Keane! Hopefully they’ll pop over for a beer.”

1970s fancy dress is encouraged, as well as vintage Nottingham Forest shirts (or Malmo shirts) to help heighten the feeling that the event has taken that step back in time.

So grab your old football shirt and have a look around in the loft for those flared jeans you probably should have thrown away, because the 70s are back in town.
