Nottingham Football Club boss 'horrified' as car rips up pitch doing doughnuts in snow

The boss of a football club in Nottingham says he was "horrified" to see a car tearing up the club's pitch by performing doughnuts on it in the snow.

Anthony Spencer, the chief executive of Nottingham FC and one of three owners of Melbourne Park in Aspley, says he was alerted to the incident after his CCTV cameras picked up a blue car driving across the field.

The blue car then began to perform doughnuts in the snow on the evening of Saturday, January 2.

Mr Spencer says numerous football clubs use the park and the fields to train, including Nottingham FC, Sherwood football club and the Pythian Club.

However, the pitch has now been completely ripped up, with deep tyre tracks now covering a vast portion of the field.

"It is frustrating because when we took over the park from the council it was in a right state, and we spent close to £75,000 to change that," Mr Spencer said.

"The building is now our clubhouse and we've spent a lot of money in the summer doing the pitches up.

"We had only left the gates open because there were families in there enjoying the snow.

"The cameras notified me as to what was going on and I was horrified. Kids from deprived areas use that park and we have had to call off the games."

Mr Spencer said Nottinghamshire Police is helping to find the culprits, checking ANPR cameras on nearby roads to see which car entered the park in the evening on Saturday.

He says his CCTV, unfortunately, did not pick up its number plate.

The incident happened when snow came down between 3pm and 6pm on January 2, and the city was covered in a soft, white blanket.

Mr Spencer added: "It's the kids who suffer."
