Nottingham firm behind Wall's and Pork Farms considering bakery closure

The Nottingham food giant behind brands including Pork Farms and Wall's is considering the closure of its Lincolnshire bakery in a move bosses say will ensure the firm is profitable.

Addo Food Group has confirmed a consultation is under way to shut its Spalding bakery and transfer the products it manufactures, which includes sausage rolls and pasties, to sites in Poole and Market Drayton.

The move, set to take place in 2020, will affect 405 employees but it is currently unclear whether any will be offered new roles at other Addo sites.

The company said the proposal was made following a "comprehensive business review" and is required to ensure the group is profitable and meets customer expectations.

Making the announcement, Addo CEO Deborah Bolton said: "We fully understand the disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees, and we are committed to doing everything possible to support them over the coming weeks, especially those who would be directly affected.

"In order to maintain our market leading position and meet customer expectations as efficiently as possible, we need to optimise our manufacturing sites to enable a continued investment in quality, service and product and packaging innovation. This proposal will allow us to achieve this."

Addo Food Group is headquartered just off Queen's Drive and was last year named the 17th biggest company in Nottinghamshire in the Nottingham Post's annual Top 200 .

Its turnover for that year was reported to be £271 million and it had more than 2,500 employees.

Deborah Bolton, meanwhile, was named Inspirational Woman of the Year at the Post's Women in Business Awards in 2018.
