Nottingham fireworks display: City Council to make decision on event 'in due course'

It's one of the most spectacular events of the year as hundreds of fireworks light up the night sky above Nottingham.

The display normally attracts around 40,000 visitors to the Forest Recreation Ground each year for the Bonfire Night November 5 festivities.

Last year, the display was cancelled due to coronavirus, alongside Splendour, the Nottingham Beach, Riverside Festival and Goose Fair.

In cancelling 2020's display, the council said it had to be mindful not only of people’s safety at the event, but also the wider considerations of how 40,000 people would get there.

For the 2021 display, Nottingham City Council told Nottinghamshire Live the event had not yet been confirmed (as of September 1), but a decision on if it will go ahead would be made in due course.

It comes as the decision was taken to cancel this year’s Goose Fair due to ongoing concerns and uncertainty around Covid.

Nottingham City Council, which owns the Forest Recreation Ground – currently the site of a vaccination centre – and where the fair takes place every October, "reluctantly" came to its decision in consultation with the Showmen’s Guild.
