Nottingham fire: Schoolgirl, 12, killed in devastating blaze at house

A 12-year-old schoolgirl has been killed in a devastating house fire.

Tasmia Haque died in hospital on Wednesday, police have today confirmed.

The Year 8 pupil at Nottingham Academy was fatally injured in the blaze in the city's suburb of Sneinton.

Detectives are investigating the fire but are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector Sam Austin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "All of our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Tasmia’s family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.

"A file is being prepared for the coroner. We are not looking for anyone else in relation to Tasmia's death.

'This is an extremely sensitive case that has understandably provoked emotion and caused great sadness within the local community.

"We would be very grateful if the family’s privacy could be respected and we'd also ask social media users to be mindful of comments they are making at this extremely difficult time."

Nottingham's Jamia Masjid Sultania mosque paid tribute, writing on its Facebook page: "She was always known to be a very polite, sweet and warm girl. Always smiling and full of life. She will be dearly missed by us all."
