Nottingham drink driver was giving drunk family friend lift home on 5 minute trip

A drink driver was caught by police giving a very drunk family friend a lift home on a five-minute journey, a court heard.

Jack Newcombe, 30, of Rectory Place, Barton in Fabis, had a couple of drinks during the day and had a substantial meal and a sleep

When he woke up, he did not appreciate be would be over the drink drive limit when he was asked by a family friend, who was very drunk, for a lift home.

It was a five minute journey, the court heard.

Newcombe, a joiner, was seen by police driving at around 3am on April 2.

Officers saw a Ford C-Max in Beechdale Road, Beechdale, driving at 20mph in a 30mph limit.

The car came to a natural stop in Denewood Crecent, Bilborough.

The defendant got out and police smelt alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test.

An evidential test at the Bridewell custody suite, Nottingham showed he had 60 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the limit of 35.

At Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, April 19, Newcombe pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

He was fined £120, banned from driving for 17 months, ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £34 victim surcharge.
