Nottingham dessert shop boss insists 'mouldy cheesecake' was just covered in icing sugar

Bosses at a Nottingham dessert shop have insisted a cheesecake which a customer found 'covered in mould' was in fact decorated with icing sugar.

Gina Ridley, from Lenton, had ordered the dessert online from OMG in Nottingham as 'a bit of a treat' after breaking her fingers during a horse riding accident.

But the 26-year-old account manager claims she felt sick when she received the sweet and discovered green fluff on top when she opened up her container.

“I opened the lunch box and I noticed all this green fluff on it,” said Miss Ridley.

“I thought ‘what the hell is that?’ It took me a second to look at it and realise it was mould.”

"It was gross and it made me feel sick."

Miss Ridley explained she had bought the pudding alongside boyfriend Liam after horse riding incident to make herself feel better.

"Not only did I have a broken finger, I also had a mouldy cheesecake to top it off."

The manager of OMG, based in Forman Street, has said Miss Ridley was mistaken and that the fluff on top of the cheesecake was in fact icing sugar

"The rule is for me, anything that I serve to anyone, I can serve to my kids." Rashid Gorsi said.

"If something is no good, we will throw it away. The food and hygiene people have been here before and checked. What she thinks is mould is not mould, it is icing powder."

Miss Ridley has not accepted the explanation, adding: ""It's frustrating because that was digusting to receive, you don't expect to order from a company and get something like that."

Mr Gorsi insisted that the shop follows all the correct food safety procedures, pointing to the establishment's five star food hygiene rating.

A spokesperson for Nottingham City Council said their food hygiene team received a complaint, however were unable to take further action.

They added they had received no other complaints about OMG.
