Nottingham Council House and Green's Mill will be lit up green

Nottingham Council House and Green's Mill science centre will be lit up green to show support for the NSPCC’s 'Light For Every Childhood' Christmas campaign.

The city centre and Sneinton landmarks will illuminate green through the day and evening on Wednesday, December 11, to help raise awareness of the campaign that will help make sure every child knows how and where to speak out about abuse.

As part of this year’s Christmas campaign, the NSPCC is encouraging people across the county to ‘Get Your Sparkle On’ by wearing sparkling accessories, baking or crafting treats to fundraise.

A £3 donation helps the charity deliver its 'Speak Out Stay Safe' programme to teach a primary school pupil how to recognise abuse and get help.

A donation of £90 will provide a special assembly to 30 primary school pupils, and £580 will help reach a whole school of children.

NSPCC fundraising manager Claire Campbell said: “It’s fantastic that prominent landmarks such as the Council House and Green's Mill are lighting up green to highlight our campaign.

“It’s easy for anyone to take part in 'Get Your Sparkle On' this December – whether you’re just wearing a sparkly jumper, or organising a sparkling bake-off at work, every single penny raised will go towards helping children and young people get the help they need.”

The NSPCC has a large presence in Nottingham with a service centre, Jenny Farr House, located on Cranmer Street, where the charity has been providing services since 1985.

Childline also has a base in Nottingham, where counsellors speak to children and young people in their darkest hours every day of the year, even on Christmas Day.

Nottingham City Council portfolio holder for children and young people, Cheryl Barnard, added: “We were only too pleased to let the NSPCC light up the Council House green to raise awareness for their Christmas campaign this year.

“There can be nothing more important than protecting children from harm and the NSPCC do a fantastic job year in, year out doing just that.

“We hope people notice the Council House and Green's Mill are lit up green on Wednesday night and do something to support this great cause.”
