Nottingham College moves all teaching online to ‘protect wellbeing’ in response to coronavirus outbreak

Nottingham College has announced it will move all teaching online in response to the UK’s ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The College will stop delivering all face-to-face teaching from Thursday, March 19 and will begin online classes from Monday, March 23.

The decision will affect all full-time and part-time learners, and also those studying higher education and apprenticeship courses but scheduled exams this week will go ahead as planned.

Those who cannot access online resources have been told to contact their tutors to make alternative arrangements.

Campuses where classes will no longer take place include the College’s locations in Basford, Highfields, a Clarendon campus, and its Lace Market campus that centres around the Adams Building.

A spokesperson for Nottingham College said: “In order to protect the wellbeing of our whole College community, we are moving to online and remote learning for our students.

“We will therefore be pausing teaching for the remainder of this week, so no classes will take place this Thursday or Friday (March 19 and 20).

“College campuses will remain open for the remainder of this week to enable our teachers to complete the migration of teaching and learning resources online and to organise for printed learning packs to go to those students who need them.

“Whilst teaching and learning will take place remotely from next week, some of our campuses will remain open for teachers and support staff to make their ongoing preparations for remote home working.

“Our nurseries at both Clarendon and Adams will remain open, in accordance with Government policy at this time.

“To give our staff and students the best opportunity to put into practice the Government’s latest advice about social distancing and self-isolation, we yesterday asked all pregnant and elderly staff and students to stay at home, and also those with pre-existing medical conditions that place an individual in a vulnerable group.”

The college has around 11 different campuses and buildings across Nottingham and parts of the county.

Construction company Wates Group - who are responsible for Nottingham College’s new £58 million City Hub - has said it is “continuing to operate our sites as usual” and not been affected by coronavirus.
