Nottingham cleaning team labelled 'heroes' after England's clash with Denmark

Nottingham's cleaning team has been praised for their efforts in clearing rubbish from Old Market Square following England's victory over the Danes.

Hundreds of exuberant fans took to the city centre once again to celebrate England reaching their first major tournament final since 1966, despite Damsgaard's free kick blazer first threatening their hopes during the match at Wembley on July 7.

But the victory was secured thanks to Harry Kane's double-tap penalty against Kasper Schmeichel, making the final score 2-1, and England fans were back in Old Market Square to mark the occasion on Wednesday night.

From a DJ set from an Ice cream van to huge crowds, the city was packed out until late into the night.

As a result a huge amount of litter and glass was left, but the city council's cleansing team were quickly on scene to get the square looking presentable again.

The team said: "Well that's it from the top PM Centre Team.

"City back to a good standard after the OMS was packed with fans. Ready now for John and his 4am team to polish up ready for Thursday's shoppers."

Councillor Rebecca Langton, the city's portfolio holder for skills, growth and economic development, described the cleaning team as "heroes" for their swift efforts.
