Nottingham City Council looking at CCTV after 'disgraceful' fly-tip outside business

Nottingham City Council has condemned a "disgraceful" fly-tip that was dumped outside a business as it reviews CCTV footage.

The massive fly-tip "blighting the area" was discovered by staff at Paper Rose, a greetings card publisher, on Sunday morning and believe it was dumped overnight on Saturday (June 6).

The company, which distributes stock to retailers across the UK, has a large number of lorries driving to the site at Nottingham's Riverside Business Park, near B&Q, to pick up stock.

But they have been unable to access the business due to the huge rubbish dump, leaving staff furious.

An investigation has since been launched by the city council as lorries were having to park on the road outside and staff are having to bring boxes of stock to load up.

Councillor Rebecca Langton, portfolio holder for communities at Nottingham City Council, told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s disgraceful that someone has decided to dump this rubbish all over the road, hugely inconveniencing the company whose entrance it has blocked off and blighting the area.

“It’s even more frustrating for us because our depleted teams have been working so hard to keep the city clean and tidy over the past few weeks.

"This selfish and reckless action diverts crews away from their regular work and is so unnecessary because bulky-waste collections are back up-and-running again.

“We are in the process of clearing this away, while our Community Protection officers are checking CCTV as they continue their investigation.”

The fly-tip comes despite the tip in Nottingham being back open for business, as well as all 12 county council-run sites across Nottinghamshire with social distancing in place.

The city council has also restarted its bulky waste collection for residents in Nottingham which was temporarily suspended at the start of lockdown.
