Nottingham protest - city centre roads to close all day as protesters vow to 'bring Nottingham to a standstill'

Two city centre roads will be shut on Saturday (August 22) - on a day protesters vowed to 'bring Nottingham to a standstill'.

King Street and Queen Street, off Upper Parliament and Old Market Square, will shut from 9am to 8pm.

According to Nottingham City Council "the closure is to ensure pedestrian safety and movement during an event".

Bus company NCT Tweeted: "Red and Blue Line buses will terminate at their Victoria Centre stops. Sky Blue 45 will terminate on Burton Street."

The road closure announcement comes after organisers posted a video, saying they planned to meet at the BBC building, in London Road, at noon on Saturday before walking into the city centre for speeches between 1pm and 3pm.

Motorcyclists have also been told to gather at the war memorial at the Victoria Embankment.

In a video posted on Youtube about the event, organiser Dean Cumberpatch said: "Saturday is about veterans and children and to bring awareness of the plight of veterans.

“We are going to do something different on Saturday, that will not be known to you until Saturday morning, and you’re either with us or you’re not. This has got to be a mass takeover of Nottingham. Bring Nottingham to a standstill.

“We’re going to slow the traffic down around Nottingham."
