Nottingham city centre road cordoned off after road sweeper catches fire

Part of Nottingham city centre had to be cordoned off after a road sweeper caught fire.

Police and firefighters were spotted on Clumber Street, Nottingham, shortly before 7pm this evening (July 24).

Crews extinguished the blaze and have since reopened the road.

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to a fire in a road sweeper.

"The call came in saying the incident was in Clumber Street at around 6.49pm.

"There was rubbish on fire in a small refuse vehicle and we used two hose reel jets.

"One crew attended but they have now left the scene."
