Nottingham city centre chip shop which 'closed forever' is back in business

A Nottingham city centre chip shop which appeared to have closed for good after the landlord terminated the lease has reopened - in the same premises.

The shutters went down at Frites 33, the home of Belgian frites, in Upper Parliament Street at the end of 2019.

A spokesman for the business claimed the building was unsafe and in need of structural repairs but estimated it would reopen during February.

However, a 'forfeiture of premises' notice appeared in February, saying the landlord had ended the lease.

But the issue has now been resolved and Frites 33 is back selling the twice-fried chips with a choice of 33 different sauces, from teriyaki to buffalo, and 10 spices as well as toppings and sauces.

A spokesman said repairs had been carried out and they were open seven days a week for takeaway and delivery.

"We’re fortunate enough to have fairly decent space at the front so we’re just asking customers to observe a two-metre distance."

The company, which also has a branch in Derby, has received rave reviews on TripAdvisor.

One fan said: "The fries always taste amazing, there's a great range of sauces and toppings to choose from, the prices are very reasonable for how filling the portions can be, and the staff are always really great and will allow you to try sauces before you commit to one.

"The fries are always so crunchy and perfect, and the waiting time between placing your order and receiving your food isn't long at all so if you're hungry and in a rush then it's super convenient."
