Nottingham city centre chip shop has closed - but it should only be temporary

A Nottingham chip shop which brought something different to the city has closed for safety reasons.

The shutter is down at Frites 33, in Upper Parliament Street, leaving chip lovers wondering what's going on.

There is no notice on the shutter to indicate why the closure has happened.

NottinghamshireLive has contacted the owners and discovered that it is just temporary, caused by structural problems at the building.

The outlet, which opened in 2018, specialises in twice-cooked Belgian chips served with a choice of 33 sauces such as blue cheese and piri piri and a host of seasonings and toppings.

A spokesperson said: "We incurred some structural problems with the building just before Christmas and we are in the process of getting these repaired.

"We’re hoping to reopen in February."

Sauce' Em, a similar venture in Wheeler Gate, closed for good last year.
