Nottingham city centre car park could be extended when building is demolished

A car park in Nottingham city centre could be extended, plans have revealed.

After proposals were tabled to flatten the former Housing Aid building in Lower Parliament Street, plans have since been lodged to use the site as a temporary car park.

The plot, next to an existing public car park in Brook Street, would form an extension to the facility.

Nottingham City Council will listen to offers for the ex-Housing Aid site and adjoining car park as a single development plot.

The idea is the car park will be used until the site is sold off for redevelopment.

Up to 19 more spaces are expected to be created.

Earlier this month, passersby said community housing would be their ideal choice for the site.

Housing Aid, providing services supporting the homeless or those threatened with homelessness, relocated to a new "customer hub" at the city council's Loxley House HQ on January 20.

The Nottingham Revenues and Benefits service, providing council tax and housing benefit support, moved the week before to a redeveloped ground floor area, joining Jobcentre Plus and Nottingham Futures.

Councillor Sally Longford, deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for energy, environment and democratic Services, said: “Bringing essential council services like Housing Aid and Revenues and Benefits, together with Jobcentre Plus and Nottingham Futures, under one roof will make life easier for people who need to access these services.

"Instead of having to visit two or three sites, this will become a one-stop shop where real wrap around support can be provided to the people of Nottingham."
