Nottingham chef Sat Bains says perfect last meal would be fish finger sandwich - made by his wife

Nottingham's Michelin-starred chef Sat Bains has said if he could have one last meal before he died it would be a fish finger sandwich.

Speaking to MailOnline, Sat, who is the chef-proprieter of the two-Michelin starred Restaurant Sat Bains (RSB) in Lenton, said while he would enjoy his starter in France, he would have a main course at home because he wouldn't want it 'to be anywhere else'.

He said: "For my main course I’d ask my lovely wife Amanda to step up.

"She makes the best fish finger sandwich I’ve ever tasted, a mouth-watering layered stack of fish fingers, lettuce, jalapeno peppers, red onions, chicory and fennel, on buttered brown bread.

"I’ll put spicy Sriracha sauce on it — washed down with a bottle of a complex, powerful 1982 Lynch Bages red wine."

Sat first arrived in Nottingham nearly twenty years ago with his restaurant now attracting food lovers from far and wide, and with tasting menu dishes including chicken muesli and glazed veal sweetbread - there isn't a fish finger sandwich in sight.

Despite simple tastes for his main course, Sat said his perfect starter would comprise roast foie gras with apple, spiced gingerbread and pickled turnip and a fungus-based dessert from Heston Blumenthal's restaurant Fat Duck.

He made the revelation as part of a MailOnline feature asking top chefs from across the country what their last meal would be, and it seems as thought Sat has made an impression, with James Martin opting for a baked potato dish from Sat's restaurant as part of his last meal.
