Nottingham Castle ticket prices as it prepares to re-open

Tickets for the revamped Nottingham Castle are available ahead of its reopening on June 21.

Nottingham Castle Trust, the not-for-profit charity which operates Nottingham Castle, has revealed its ticket prices as well as its first major exhibition.

In a fitting tribute to one of Nottingham's legends, in conjunction with the Design Museum, the first exhibition will be the “Hello, My Name is Paul Smith”, celebrating everything about the local designer.

Booking for both the Castle visitor experience as well as the exhibition opened online from Monday, May 24.

General admission ticket prices range from £9 for children, £13 for adults and from £22.50 for families.

There are additional costs for specific activities such as the Robin Hood Adventures interactive experience as well as the Castle cave tours.

A ten percent discount is also available for residents with Nottingham postcodes NG1 to NG9 and NG11.

The Paul Smith exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the world of the fashion designer with more than 1,500 objects that reflect his personality, curiosity and energy.

Other highlights visitors can look forward at the Castle to include outdoor trails and the highly anticipated adventure playground, Hood’s Hideout.

Inside the Ducal Palace, world-leading exhibition spaces include the Rebellion Gallery, Creative Galleries and Art Gallery.

Each present a different element that celebrates Nottingham's heritage, creativity, industry and culture.

Currently the opening date and visitor offering is dependent on government guidelines and may be subject to change.

Debbie Beardall, director of commercial and customer services at Nottingham Castle Trust, said: “We’re delighted to finally release tickets for sale and to reveal the first international touring exhibition.

“Nottingham Castle has been transformed into a heritage and culture tourist attraction of international standing.

"There will be amazing new things for families to enjoy, even elements that people might remember are now so different."

Speaking about the ticket pricing, Ms Beardall added: "As operation moves to a self-sustaining charity, tickets are a vital source of income with funds going directly back into education, upkeep, preservation and improvement of the Castle, its collections and landscapes.

"I hope people will see there is a lot for everyone and we have compared prices to other local attractions, mixed with the dwell time we expect of around three to four hours."

It had been initially planned to have annual tickets for residents, but due to the changes brought on by the pandemic such as lowered capacity, Ms Beardall said the decision was taken to have day tickets to allow more people the opportunity to visit.

The Castle is expected to bring a boost to surrounding businesses and the local economy of Nottingham with hotels already looking to offer visitor packages, Ms Beardall said.

Nottingham City Council portfolio holder for culture, councillor Eunice Campbell-Clark, said: “After several years of transformation work on this historic site it’s been a huge achievement to complete the project on budget and on time despite the Covid pandemic.

"I’m absolutely delighted that people will shortly be able to see what’s been achieved and enjoy a wonderful day out exploring the grounds, caves and new galleries and experiencing 1,000 years of the history of this historic site.”
