Nottingham cafe to provide free Christmas dinner for recovering addicts

Workmates and families who hold their Christmas celebrations at a Nottingham cafe will be helping vulnerable people in the community to have a festive dinner too.

Proceeds from the Yuletide get-together at Cafe Sobar will go directly to providing a free Christmas dinner for recovering drug and drink addicts and their families.

Cafe Sobar will be open late on Friday, December 13 for groups to hold their parties. The alcohol-free zone will be charging £25 for a Christmas mocktail on arrival, three-course meal and tea or coffee after dinner.

The festivities will start at 6pm.

The menu kicks off with a warming spiced butternut squash and sweet potato soup, crayfish and apple cocktail, or goat's cheese tart. For mains there will be a choice or turkey, swordfish or vegetable bake and a variety of desserts to finish.

The cafe, in Friar Lane, was developed by Double Impact, the Nottingham-based charity helping people recover from substance misuse.

A spokesperson said: "By coming to us for your Christmas dinner, you will be contributing directly to a vulnerable person in the community being able to enjoy the same."
