Nottingham Beach VIP Playa Club likely to return next year

There's but one weekend left of the Nottingham Beach residency before the sand is once again swept off the slabs of Old Market Square for another year.

All attractions - including its newest, the VIP Playa Day Club and Restaurant - will remain open until Sunday night (September 1) when the vendors, chefs and ride operators will be replaced with a team of builders ready to dismantle the bespoke one-of-a-kind retractable marquee alongside 120-tonnes of sand.

Then there won't be long to wait until the city centre is hosting its next big events, Old Market Scare and Nottingham's Winter Wonderland.

But for anyone already feeling misty eyed about dipping their toes in front of the council house, Nottinghamshire Live understands it is likely the VIP club will return next year after proving a hit with visitors.

Edward Mellors, a director of Mellors Group (City-by-the-Sea organisers) says: “Our aim is to provide free family entertainment for both residents and visitors to Nottingham City Centre and we are delighted to be able to report that Nottingham Beach has been a huge success.

“In addition this summer we wanted to give Nottingham a different experience - something of quality that would appeal to the professional market. We believe that the introduction of Playa Day Club & Restaurant has done just that"

Featuring 'living wall' of faux greenery intended for the perfect selfie op as well as the 'Social Shell' wooden lounge hangout, the stand-out attractions of the VIP pop-up was the pool pods, day beds and restaurant by Laurence Henry, winner of MasterChefs: The Professionals.

Edwards adds: "We have been thrilled to receive all of the fantastic feedback from our visitors this summer and look forward to providing more events and activities over the coming years.”

As well as the free family beach and paddling pool, City-by-the Sea also offered free film screenings and the chance to take part in a volley ball tournament over the summer.

Dave Trimble, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at Nottingham City Council says: “We were pleased to be able to welcome the beach back this year and I think the rest of the city was too.

"We had great turnouts in spite of the varying summer weather with lots of happy kids and families enjoying the chance to have a by the sea experience and the varied programme of free entertainment and activities.

"It was one of the really popular activities on our 50 Things to Do for Summer list too.”
